Moving is one of the top 5 most stressful life changes we face – right up there with divorce. Sarah Godfrey offers some tips on how to survive the move in her article, “The Emotional Impact of Moving”:
Be as psychologically prepared as possible, and acknowledge that when you move, you may experience anxiety and/or grief at leaving people and places behind.
View the move as a transition towards a dream of a better environment, a new start or an adventure.
View packing up the house as a chance to rid yourself of all the clutter, both emotional and material, that you have collected over the years.
Visit the new community as often as you can. Check out the new neighborhood and get familiar with it.
Introduce yourself to your new neighbors and get to know them.
Get organized! 6 weeks before you move, make your to-do lists and delegate what you can.
Take care of yourself! Make sure you rest, take time out, and don’t overdo it.
Remember, things go wrong; so stay flexible!
Most importantly, choose a realtor who understands what you are going through and keeps you focused on your goals! It would be our pleasure to help you make your next move, whether buying, selling or both.
